Cleric stresses: U.S. dominance behind silence of international bodies on Gaza atrocities

A senior Iranian scholar attributed the silence of international organizations regarding the crimes of the Israeli regime in Gaza to the dominance of the United States and other global powers over these institutions stressing that people worldwide must urge their governments to respond to the regime’s brutal actions.

Hujjat al-Islam Javad Mojtahed Shabestari, a lecturer of advanced jurisprudence at the Qom seminary, outlined the responsibilities of international organizations in the face of civilian killings and the targeting of infrastructure in Gaza. He said their inherent duty is to defend the oppressed and condemn war crimes under international law, and that member states are obliged to take all possible political, economic, and diplomatic measures to end such injustices.

Expressing regret that international bodies have failed to fulfill their obligations, Shabestari noted that if any country other than Israel had committed such crimes, the United Nations and other institutions would have taken far stronger positions. He pointed to repeated ceasefire violations, attacks on hospitals and schools, and the killing of innocents, saying international organizations have not taken the necessary action.

He emphasized that the silence of these institutions can only be explained by their subjugation to the United States and other global powers. If they were not under such influence, he argued, their conscience would not allow them to merely issue statements while avoiding practical measures.

Shabestari also highlighted the role of grassroots organizations, urging them to do everything within their capacity and press their governments to condemn the regime’s actions and take concrete steps. He said the minimum expectation is for governments to cut or restrict economic and political relations with Israel and its supporters, adding that Islamic countries in particular should heed this demand. He expressed hope that governments will join their nations in denouncing the crimes and injustices of the Zionist regime.
