West Bank turning into another front for the zionist occupiers

Crescent International

Israel murdered a Fatah commander, Khalil al-Maqdah in Lebanon on August 21.

Some self-styled pundits, taking a superficial view, considered the killing as another routine violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and Israel’s ongoing assassination policy.

There is a lot more to this murder than the simplistic explanations mentioned above.

Before looking at the deeper significance, it is important to put Fatah and the West Bank in a proper political framework of the ongoing regional war in Palestine.

Following the so-called Oslo Accords of 1993, western regimes and Israel handed over the West Bank to Fatah and used it for decades as a leverage to control the Palestinians.

Fatah militia branded as Palestinian “security” force did the dirty work for Israel and Israel and the western regimes provided them money to maintain a façade of statehood.

One of the biggest fears of both Israel and the US has been the increase in popularity of Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the West Bank.

Unlike Fatah, the two movements advocate armed resistance against zionist occupation as a primary form of struggle.

Through economic leverages, until October 2023, Israel was able to control the political narrative and play the “good” West Bank regime versus the “bad” Islamic movements in Palestine.

The events of October 2023 flipped the formula of playing the Fatah militias against the Islamic resistance movements in Palestine.

The zionists now see this reality and fully understand its dreadful political consequences for the settler colonial regime.

Since October 2023, pro-zionist media outlets and western regimes have framed the ongoing events as if they only began 11 months ago.

There was seldom any mention of the thousands of Palestinians held for decades in appalling conditions in Israeli prisons, almost nothing about Israel being an apartheid regime and so on.

For pro-zionist propagandists, the Palestinian conflict began eleven months ago.

As global public opinion pushed backed against this false narrative, Israel and its western backers finetuned their propaganda and framed it as the ‘Israel-Hamas war’, or the ‘Israel-Gaza war’.

This narrative also crumbled quickly.

The zionist forces’ mass murder of Palestinians was on full display and it was clear to all that this was a genocide against all Palestinians, be it in Gaza or the West Bank.

Although Fatah militia, posing as a “Palestinian Security Force” is a western creation, its members are Palestinians, whose brethren are being regularly killed, tortured and imprisoned by Israel before their eyes.

There are thousands of members of this force with access to weapons and some basic military training.

It is simply a matter of time before a clandestine network of Palestinians working in the so-called security force begin turning against Fatah collaborators and start using their limited resources to fight back against Israeli perpetrated genocide.

The assassination mentioned at the beginning of this article shows that it is already happening and there is no way for Israel to stop it.

According to multiple media reports, the murdered Fatah member in Lebanon was coordinating with Islamic Iran and Hizbullah to provide Palestinians in the West Bank with the means for self-defence.

Eruption of Palestinian operations in the West Bank against zionist occupation forces shows that West Bank is now an emerging military front against Israel.

For the West Bank to become a serious military challenge for Israel will take time, politically, the process itself is a death sentence for Israel.

The combination of two factors—residents of the West Bank resorting to armed resistance, and turning to Islamic Iran as a key backer—are a strategic game changer.

When combined with other factors, like liberation of parts of northern PalestineYemeni operations and Israel becoming a pariah regime, emergence of the West Bank as an additional front is going to drain Israel and the US in an unprecedented manner.

In the context of the larger global geopolitical factors, Israel’s position is becoming precarious.

The ongoing war in Ukraine, Iran’s rising military and political power, China overtaking the US as a global economic power and growing political instability in Europe are external factors over which Israel has no control.

Combined with on the ground realities, these are creating a perfect storm against Israel.
