Islamization and the role of Islamists in lands of injustice and corruption

Imran Khan

The terms Islamists and Islamization are not our choice.

It is a description of those who, themselves, choose this label to describe their approach to transforming a society from a state of ignocracy, corruption, oppression and injustice to a state of Islam.

They argue that through evolution and compromise—even if the compromise results in a violation of the very fundamentals of Islam—this is their preferred approach.

To be practical, if what is meant by Islamization is the process that is taking place for example in the Arabian statelets, Malaysia and potentially other places, then it would behoove them and those who agree with the Islamists’ ideas to abandon these tactics of delaying the struggle.

The only purpose they are serving is to fudge the issue as they obviously have not taken a stand against those who have concentrated and abused power, (in Qur’anic terminology the Taghut, plural Tawagheet).

They have missed the purpose of Islam which is not and can never be synonymous with being granted the freedom to observe the rituals and other personal and private responsibilities of Islam.

These Islamists may have whispered to each other that they do not agree with the Taghut and that they are against it.

But what counts is not the whisper from ear-to-ear but the actual position in life where a person proves himself.

Obsessed with preserving their dear and good connections the Islamists say “the rulers in various regimes or ruling parties in various governments have the power and the means to generate wealth and we have the popularity and the ability to swing the Muslim vote.

“So, let us give them some of our popularity and they’ll give us a little access to the wealth generation avenues and we’ll wax together.”

In addition to that, they say that they have some well-placed Muslims within the power structure to take care of and safeguard Muslim interests.

This is not the process of Islam!

It is not the method of the Messengers and Prophets that were sent to mankind throughout history to change the circumstances through their revolutionary outlook and it certainly was not the methodology and the method of the last and final Prophet (pbuh).

People involved in the Islamization process, unfortunately, may only learn through mistakes that will cost the Muslims and the oppressed their time and effort while inflicting much suffering.

Perhaps these Islamists are in need of this experiment and time to learn.

We hope this learning process does not affect the rest of the Muslims and the oppressed worldwide.

This is the best-case scenario.

In its worst case, we hope these Islamists do not take a negative and hostile attitude against other Muslims who are ready to give up their life for the real issues at hand.

We should have enough experience to conclude that change will not come through the system.

What is required is that the Muslims and the oppressed peoples should stand together and struggle for their rights.

Oppression cannot be condoned because segments of the oppressed are technically not Muslims.

The absence of the universal principles of Islam often results in the previously oppressed becoming the new oppressors.

South Africa and India are prime examples where the oppressive Apartheid regime and the British colonialists were replaced but the new power structure that has become an extension of the previous oppressors.

So, the struggle and the role of Muslims not only continues, it must be intensified.
