Last Wednesday, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution made it clear to parties in violation of JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action): "There is no use in talking. There is no use in giving promises. This time, only actions matter. If we see action on the part of the other side, we will take action too.”
As usual, it is a loud and clear message from Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei that should remove any ambiguities about Iran’s stance on the said agreement that was reached in Geneva in 2015 on Iran’s right to enrich uranium for peaceful use of nuclear energy, with Germany and the five self-imposed permanent members of the UN Security Council – Britain, France, the US, Russia, and China.
Unfortunately, from day one of the signing of the international accord, the four western countries did not live up to their commitments, except for some cosmetic measures such as cancellation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 that was unjustly forced upon Iran by politicizing the nuclear file, and release of some few billion dollars of Iran’s own money illegally frozen by the said countries as a form of blackmail.
Then came the scoundrel called Donald Trump, who taking full advantage of the unwarranted clause that "the US president should approve the deal every three months” – inserted into the JCPOA by duping the Iranian negotiators – not only withdrew from the accord, but resorted to economic terrorism against Iran by imposing a series of illegal sanctions, even unsuccessfully asking the UN to re-impose Resolution 2231.
A the same time, the West European trio of Germany, France, and Britain, because of their deep enmity to the Islamic Republic, played the role of hypocrites by making excuses in implementing their own commitments.
Iran, which as confirmed by the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), fully adhered to the letter and spirit of JCPOA in the face of these violations and resisted US highhandedness to renegotiate the deal, felt no other choice but to use article 37 of JCPOA to reduce its commitments, including the right to increase the percentage of uranium enrichment for industrial use and to serve notice to the Nuclear Watchdog to end the permission it had given in good faith (non-mandatory) for random inspections of its atomic projects.
With the election of Joe Biden as US president, a section of Iranian officials had hopes of reversal of the roguish resolutions of Trump, but the new man in the White House who as deputy to Barak Obama during negotiations to finalize the 2015 Geneva Accord is not new to multisided deal, has chosen to play dirty politics.
He means to say that if his predecessor was an open enemy of the Islamic Republic, he is certainly not a friend of the Iranian people.
This is evident by the hypocrisy of his administration to try to lure Iranian officials to enter into futile talks unrelated to JCPOA, by notifying the UN that the US no longer insists on re-imposing Resolution 2231 as per the three letters of Trump.
Wonder, whom Biden and his Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, are trying to deceive by pretending to revoke the previous US president’s letters which the UN had already rejected and thrown into the trashcans!
Either the new US officials have not clearly heard and read the crystal clear statements of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution or they think they are smart enough to trap Iran into renegotiating JCPOA through political maneuverings in contrast to the state terrorism of Trump.
No Mr. Biden, there is no need for any talks with the US or with the West European Trio for Iran, which as Ayatollah Khamenei has said without mincing words: "This time the Islamic Republic will not be convinced with hearing such and such words and promises. Things will not be like the past.”
Therefore, lift all the sanctions of your roguish predecessor and rejoin JCPOA. If not the Islamic Republic of Iran is entitled to take every step it deems necessary to defend its inalienable rights to independently develop its peaceful nuclear projects.
