Israel’s former Shin Bet director: Insolvency leadership leads to insolvency

More than 1,800 people have died from HIV complications Corona Within about seven months, and unfortunately this number is expected to grow significantly at the current rate of infection. For those who want some proportions, in the five years of the second intifada, which is considered the worst wave of “terrorism” since the establishment (forging) of the (fake) state, about 1,200 people were killed.

The numbers speak for themselves and it is clear that this is a very serious health, economic and social crisis, which requires extreme measures to save lives and the economy, and to reduce the damage in the medium and long term. Therefore, in these difficult days of outbreaks of such a large scale of the virus, there is no choice but to impose severe restrictions on gatherings, workplaces, cafes and restaurants, places of entertainment and leisure, the distance from homes and also prayers and demonstrations.

I do not shake my head at the demonstration that everything is so important to democracy, and I do not shake my head at the importance of prayer and Torah study for the religious among us. I therefore fully support the temporary (only) restrictions imposed on the demonstrations and also on the prayers. Because part of the unwritten contract of our being with one and one society, obliges us all to concessions and deep social solidarity.

About a million (!) Unemployed, more and more businesses closing, families not being able to see their elderly parents for weeks and months, people not being able to properly say goodbye to their dying loved ones in the corona wards, weddings that cannot be celebrated and on the other hand funerals that cannot be held properly – all of these are reason enough Good thing we know how to give up. We all.

I have heard in recent months doctors and experts talk about the corona virus and define it as a “cunning and elusive opponent”. I was surprised by their definition, because the painful truth is that the virus is neither cunning nor elusive. He’s just an uncharacteristic genetic load. Therefore the alarming graphs of the numbers of its rising victims are nothing but the sad reflection of the face of our country and society in 2020.

What can be seen in this reflection? All ex-territories in terms of law enforcement in the so-called sovereign state of Israel; The results of divisions and mutual incitement; The Israeli tribalism that is becoming a serious danger; The years of lack of investment in health infrastructure; The elimination of the National Emergency Authority, and also, and perhaps most importantly, we can see the misery of the dysfunctional personalities we have long chosen with our own hands.

And what is most annoying? Why, despite all this potential, are we failing to fight the virus in relation to other countries? Why do we lead the world table in the number of deaths relative to the population?

Here, too, the daily graphs of the virus’ ‘successes’ have an answer. They are also the mirror placed in front of the face of the leadership we have chosen, which reflects the results of every flaw: poor management, arrogance without any cover, lack of self-criticism, lack of compassion, complete detachment from the people, preference for self-interest over nationalism. Absolute example of personal example.

Such impersonal leadership cannot really lead, because it is preoccupied primarily with itself, with petty reckonings, with poor politics. As such, it is incapable of realizing our enormous potential. This leadership brings us into a state of insolvency in every sense.

When we look up, to our elected officials and their close aides, we see a prime minister accused of crimes dining on Seder night contrary to instructions with his son when the whole nation is in quarantine; President Rivlin dines on Seder night with his daughter; The prime minister’s political adviser Reuven Ezer twice violates isolation (in the US and Israel); the prime minister’s and family’s media advisers, Topaz Locke and Ofer Golan, break isolation and without a blink of an eye come or may be sent to carry out provocations at a demonstration in Balfour; As Naftali Bennett, who has already published a booklet called “How to beat an epidemic” but for some reason does not know what is happening in his house; The minister was discovered by Gamliel violating the closure instructions by 150 kilometers and behaving shamefully after the matter was discovered; MK Miki Levy of Yesh Atid, a member of the Knesset’s Corona Committee, “just bounces a pot with food” to his son; GSS chief Nadav Argaman is hosted by relatives contrary to instructions; The prime minister’s wife, Sarah Netanyahu, is ordering a book for her home, contrary to instructions, and it turns out that the list is still very long.

It is no longer one foolish weed, nor two or three. It’s a whole field of weeds growing at the foot of the dripping faucet of the defendant from Balfour, and unfortunately these weeds are leading us through one of the most severe crises we have ever known.

It is no wonder that the great leader sitting in Balfour did not find the courage required to immediately fire Luke, Golan and Ezer, the fruit of isolation and quarantine instructions from his immediate surroundings. Because what moral right does a prime minister have who himself is charged with crimes, who in his own house violates the instructions and who also returned the “skirt photographer” Natan Eshel who was sent home in disgrace from the public service to work next to him, stand in front of the public and inform Peter his close aides, or Minister Gamliel, or The head of the GSS, for violating the closure instructions?

Leadership can sometimes make wrong decisions while managing a complex crisis. He who never does is also not wrong. But when it comes to rotten leadership, lacking a personal example, beeping at the guidelines it has issued itself, and depriving most of its time of self-interest – it loses its moral right to lead.

In these difficult days, with the rising number of victims, with a health system that is suffocating, as the people suffer and sink into a deep economic and social crisis, we deserve a different, clean, morally powerful leadership and personal example, working exclusively for us.

And let us not forget: the responsibility for choosing the personalities that are leading us in the corona crisis rests solely on our shoulders. Therefore we can not come with complaints only to them. Because within ourselves we knew that a significant portion of the people we chose were unworthy. I hope we remember this when we go to the polls next time. Otherwise we can come up with complaints only to ourselves.
