"All praise belongs to Allah, Who gives safety to the frightened, delivers the upright, lifts up the weak, humbles the arrogant, annihilates the despots and makes others succeed them as heirs.”
After a gap of eleven months, Muslims all over the world are again basking in the blessings of the fasting month of Ramadhan; engrossed in prayers, recitation of the Holy Qur’an, supplications in the Divine Court, and acts of charity; but this year from what seems to be the safety of their houses and in an atmosphere of fear because of the Coronavirus sweeping across the globe.
The pandemic that does not differentiate between the virtuous and the vicious has for the moment ended congregational prayers, the gatherings at shrines, mosques, and hussainiyas for recitation of the Holy Qur’an and supplications, and the Iftar banquets, where regardless of social differences Muslims of all strata of society would sit beside each other after sunset for breaking of the day’s fast.
There is, however, no cause for despair and the current situation will not last long, as the dedicated warriors of the health/hygienic jihad against what seems to be the devilish work of the enemies of humanity in creating Covid-19, will soon come up with the necessary cure for saving mankind.
Indeed, the blessed month of Ramadhan provides the necessary strength, both spiritual and vocational, to doctors, scientists, paramedics, social volunteers, officials, security personnel, journalists, businessmen, students, preachers, religious scholars, ulema, and etc., to sincerely strive in their own respective spheres to bring fruition to the campaign against Coronavirus and the satanic elements behind it.
The common factor binding Muslims of all walks of life, whether in Iran or all over the world, in this challenge that should definitely be turned into opportunity is trust in God Almighty and obedience to His commandments, with an oath to desist from whatever Islam forbids and to work towards the unity of the Ummah by overcoming sectarian, ethnic, lingual, and political differences.
We are facing a Divine tribulation, whether in the shape of a pandemic or the evil and arrogant powers that have plunged the world into chaos with their policies of various kinds of terrorism.
The shield against their plots and the weapon to defeat diseases and the despots, is only spiritual power and earnest prayer to the Almighty Creator – as is evident by the phrase from "Du’a Iftetah” that we recite every night in Ramadhan, mentioned at the beginning of this Viewpoint Column – and of course, by using whatever material resources and the brains that God has given us to produce and manufacture in this world for our own progress and firming up of faith.
The following is one of the finest supplications in the Divine Court that the faithful recite in Ramadhan, and which is broadcast daily on the various radio and TV channels of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this blessed month:
"O Allah, bring joy to those who are in the graves. O Allah, free from want every needy person. O Allah, satiate everyone who is hungry. O Allah, clothe everyone who lacks clothing. O Allah, pay the debts of all those who are indebted. O Allah, give relief all those worried. O Allah, bring every traveler home. O Allah, release every captive. O Allah, remove every setback from the affairs of Muslims.
O Allah, give recovery to every sick person. O Allah, satisfy our wants with Your plenitude. O Allah, change our bad condition through the excellence of Your state. O Allah, redeem our debts, suffice us and free us from our wants. Indeed You have power over all things!”
"All praise belongs to Allah, Who gives safety to the frightened, delivers the upright, lifts up the weak, humbles the arrogant, annihilates the despots and makes others succeed them as heirs.”
