Lebanese analyst:
Beirut, Sept 9, IRNA - Lebanese political analyst and editor of 'Magazine' daily in Lebanon Paul Khalifa emphasized that the US insistence on weakening the role of the resistance groups is the main reason for the delay in forming the governments in Lebanon and Iraq.
In an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Khalifa said that the crisis in the formation of the government in Iraq, is not apart from the crisis in the formation of the government in Lebanon.
'This is not a coincidence. Washington is trying to create governments in both countries that maintain its influence and hinder the weighting of the balance in favor of the resistance movements,' he added.
Khalifa pointed out that this leads to a negative balance in the region, and 'we see how much the United States is pressuring in Iraq, and the American delegation is involved in details of affairs in Baghdad'.
The Lebanese analyst also said that the United States had called on Saudi Arabia to prevent the formation of an executive branch in Lebanon that would facilitate resistance activities.
He, meantime, pointed to the ineffectiveness of the Saudi influence in Iraq, and said, 'Lebanon is in a different situation, so Washington has handed over its case to Saudi Arabia. Of course, the Saudis themselves are cautious here, because President Michel Aoun warned the ambassadors to adhere to the Vienna Convention and not interfere in the internal affairs of the countries.'
Khalifa added that the prime minister, Saad al-Hariri is trying to satisfy Riyadh in hopes of improving his economic situation in Saudi Arabia. Also, al-Hariri does not want to see the painful experience that he saw in Saudi Arabia and was arrested there again. He knows that he cannot succeed in politics without Saudi coverage.
