So Trump desperately and much expectedly pulls out of the nuclear deal with Iran, which he has been portraying as “disastrous”, at the time 63% of the Americans think he is doing a big mistake. Indeed he is a democratic president of a Great America.
“The way of fools seems right to them” and on this note, Trump has passed with flying colors. By abandoning the Iran nuclear deal today (May 8), Trump puts America once again at odds with every other major global power and brings America to a stumbling block at the international level. Trump does not seem to realize the ramifications of his action and its impact on how people see the US and its standing; he has revealed his madness and has destroyed any good name that was left for the US in the eyes of the public opinion.
Right before he declared his decision, the “man who cried wolf” announced a string of false allegations against Iran, allegedly claiming that it sponsors terrorism and attacked its non-state actor ally Hezbollah, which is a legitimate member of the Lebanese government and has been defending Lebanon and the Lebanese for decades in face of Israeli aggression.
Any need to mention that the US keeps instigating instability and meddles in the region? Since the beginning of the war in Syria, the US, Saudi Arabia and their allies have been supporting al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist groups. However, after failing attempts Trump and his allies reached a dead-end. On Sunday (May 7), Trump’s allies were defeated in the parliamentary elections in Lebanon in what was a historic setback to the number one agent of Saudi Arabia and the US, Saad Hariri and his allies in face of the resistance movement Hezbollah. This perhaps left Trump and Israel bouncing off the walls in fury.
The Trump decision to act without its European allies leaves the US short of leverage. Trump stands versus the world; no one agrees with his decision and no supporting voice has been heard except that of the Israeli apartheid regime. Federica Mogherini, the European Union’s top diplomat, said that “The nuclear deal with Iran is the culmination of 12 years of diplomacy. It belongs to the entire international community”.
Iran has been sticking to its side of the deal, has been in compliance with it and has not even breached its spirit. Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States – plus Germany had finalized the JCPOA in Vienna on July 14, 2015. Tehran reiterated many times that its nuclear program is a sovereign right and that it is completely for peaceful purposes. Also Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif repeatedly stressed that only “political and peaceful” means can settle differences and conflicts.
If Trump thinks that renewed US sanctions will push Iran to a new deal with his conditions, Iran will not make any concessions and he is greatly mistaken. He should be concerned about whether North Korea will be able to Trust him on the upcoming talks, and on how the EU countries might move into another direction in fear for their interests. Trump should have also thought about China and Russia, who he has pushed towards Iran with his imprudent action.
Trump has paved the way for cementing America’s place outside the world order. Unlike Barack Obama, Trump has done a good deed to the world; he has shown the real naked truth of the US regime and its neo-con policies.
