TEHRAN, (MNA) – Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva Ali Bahreini has criticized the UN Human Rights Council for adopting a resolution, calling anti-Iran resolution 'unrealistic and discriminatory'.
At the 58th session of the Human Rights Council on Friday, during the presentation and adoption of draft resolution L.20 entitled “Situation of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran”, Bahreini strongly criticized the resolution’s discriminatory and unjustified monitoring mechanisms targeting Iran.
He argued that such measures waste resources and undermine trust in the Council’s work.
The move will drag the UN Human Rights Council into a new quagmire of inefficiency and waste of resources, which will reduce trust in the Council's performance, Bahreini emphasized.
Highlighting the severe human rights violations in the occupied Palestinian territories and the lack of accountability for perpetrators, Bahreini said that while Palestine faces ongoing abuses with impunity, the sponsors of L.20 have fabricated a misleading portrayal of Iran’s human rights situation to divert the Council’s attention.
As a country with a rich history and civilization, Iran is always proud of its achievements for humanity, the envoy added.
