Tehran to Host Int’l Islamic Unity Conference in Sept.

TEHRAN -- The 38th edition of the International Islamic Unity Conference will be held in the Iranian capital of Tehran in September.

The WFPIST annually organizes the International Islamic Unity Conference in the Islamic Unity Week.
The World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) will organize the event on September 19-21 with the main theme of “Islamic Cooperation to Achieve Common Values with A Focus on the Issue of Palestine”.
The purpose of the conference is creating unity and solidarity among Muslims, developing consensus among scholars and scientists to approximate their scientific and cultural viewpoints and presenting practical solutions in order to reach the Islamic Unity and Unified Islamic Ummah in the Islamic World and solving the problems of Muslims and presenting solutions for them, according to the website of the event.
Conference guests are chosen from amongst the elites and educated figures, the ministers of Muslim countries, scholars and muftis, university professors and other academic and cultural communities inside and outside the country. Hundreds of thinkers, scholars and reformers from around the world and thousands of Shia and Sunni scholars from different parts of Iran have participated in the conference and presented their lectures and comments over the years.

The WFPIST has called on scholars and researcher to submit their papers to the secretariat of the international on the following subjects:
- The resistance of the oppressed people of Palestine as a unifying factor for the Islamic Ummah
- Just war and peace
- Islamic brotherhood and combating terrorism
- Religious thinking freedom, acceptance of religious Ijtihad, and dealing with tensions and conflicts
- Islamic solidarity and compassion, and avoidance of tensions and conflicts
- Mutual respect among Islamic schools of thought, observing etiquette in disagreements, and avoiding quarrels, desecration and insults

The WFPIST annually organizes the conference in the Islamic Unity Week.
The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on September 21 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month (Thursday, September 16) as the birthday of the last prophet.
The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.
Late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
