Australia's foreign minister calls for Tehran's restraint

TEHRAN, (MNA) – Australia's foreign minister demanded Tehran's restraint after emphasizing that she understands the Islamic Republic of Iran's concern about the attack on the consular section of its embassy in Damascus.

Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia Penny Wong held a telephone conversation with her Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, during which she called for Iran's restraint after the Zionist Israeli regime's attack on its embassy in the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Amir-Abdollahian, for his part, expressed regret and criticized the UN Security Council for refusing to condemn the terrorist criminal act committed by the Israeli regime in its attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus. He also expressed regret that some Western governments have not been willing to condemn such a terrorist act, which blatantly violates international law and international conventions.

He further asserted that those Western states not only refuse to condemn the terrorist attack by the Israeli regime and continue to support the crimes by the Zionists, they are only calling for Iran's restraint.

The Iranian foreign minister also emphasized the need to put pressure on the Israeli regime to end the genocidal war and starving the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Wong, for her part, said that she understands the Islamic Republic of Iran's concern about the attack on the consular section of its embassy in Damascus, voicing concern about the escalated regional tension and the consequences of a wider war.
