Lessons of the Epic of Ashura

By: S. Nawabzadeh

Islamic Iran, as well as neighbouring Iraq, and many of the Muslim lands are draped in black in commemoration of history’s most heartrending tragedy, at a time when the neo Yazidi forces led by Trump the terrorist, are threatening the Ummah.
We are undaunted. We draw our inspiration from the person who taught us never to give in to pressure, and to continue resistance, with faith in God and confidence in our God-given abilities, until ultimate victory.
In 61 AH, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) had stepped on the field of Karbala, with awareness of the purpose of his journey and its eventual end.       He arrived, not to make a bid for temporal power, nor to court death passively, and neither to escape from society to the solitude of deserts and mountains.
Nay, Imam Husain (AS) had exalted and divine goals. He entered the plain of Karbala with full knowledge of the events that would greet him. And he made his heroic stand so that an indelible line could be drawn in the desert sands between good and evil, between the permissible and the forbidden, between justice and oppression, between the welfare of mankind and satanic temptations which destroy the body and soul of the human. The list could be endless.
Although, the small band of immortals, achieved martyrdom in the space of a few hours on the 10th of Muharram, they left a lasting mark on history. They had triumphed in martyrdom with their blood acting as a catalyst for all conscientious people yearning to purge the self and society of all evil.
Imam Husain (AS) and Karbala, have thus continued to interact with human conscience in every age and place, inspiring reforms, resistance, and revolutions, while each year the month of Muharram renews the allegiance of the faithful to the goals for which the Prophet’s grandson gave his life.
The sermons, speeches, aphorisms and letters of the Imam during his journey from Medina to Karbala and until his martyrdom reflect the regrettable situation of that time of the Muslim society and the Imam’s goal of his uprising. In view of these facts, the Imam decided to stand firm for the defence of Islam, even if it means giving his life.
For this reason, Imam Husain (AS) and his mission have remained immortal. This is why we continue to salute him with a worthy salutation, and hail him as "Tharallah”, for sacrificing his blood in order to infuse fresh blood into the dried veins of Islam.
Therefore, it is the legacy of these immortals that inspires the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the Resistance Forces in the region, to stand firm, explore new heights of spiritual and scientific achievements, and with sure and steadfast steps, defeat terrorism in all its different colours – Trump, the Zionists, and the Yazid-like regimes which pretend to be Muslim but devilishly serve the cause of the archenemies of Islam.
