With the Saudis raining bombs from the air and with epidemics spreading on the ground because of contamination of water resources as a result of the massive destruction of the environment, the people of Yemen are suffering the worlds’ worst humanitarian crisis.
Yet, there is no end in sight to the war that the regime in Riyadh had launched in 26 March 2015 on the assumption of an easy victory.
Today, the Saudis are intensely hated all over Yemen, along with their comrades-in-crimes, the Emiratis, who have taken control of large parts of the south.
Although the Saudi-Emirati coalition has failed to make a dent in the iron resolve of the popular Ansarallah Movement, which forms the legitimate national government in Sana’a, the aggressors have turned to terrorizing Yemenis living under their control.
The invaders have the full support of the godfather of all terrorism, the US, in their devilish designs to destroy Yemen. Donald Trump the Thug, recently vetoed the resolution to end Washington’s support for the Saudi war, while his Secretary of State, the gangster Mike Pompeo, brazenly justifies support for the state terrorism of Saudi Arabia against the people of Yemen.
Angered by the Saudi-Emirati alliance’s policy of starvation, native Yemenis of the south, including officers and sheikhs, have abandoned the coalition and returned to their homes after being offered general amnesty by the Ansarallah-allied Yemeni army.
Colonel Ali Nasser Hajar, commander of the 3rd battalion, who fought alongside Saudi-Emirati Coalition forces for four years, said: "We finally realized the enormity of the mistake we made when we joined the Coalition, which kills and starves our people.”
Many southerners are streaming towards the north into the areas under control of the Ansarallah-led government, which is welcoming the returnees by saying that the homeland is large enough to accommodate all Yemenis.
"The Ansarallah have proved to be more capable to govern than the Saudi-Emirati-backed regime of Mansour Hadi”, say many Yemenis. They note” "If we strike a comparison between Sana’a and Aden, Sana’a is better with regard to security.”
The unabated deliberate attacks on water wells and water treatment facilities by the Saudis have made many in the country to wonder if the US-backed Coalition is intentionally attempting to trigger another massive cholera epidemic.
Since the beginning of this year nearly 172,000 cases of severe acute watery diarrhea and suspected cholera were reported, of which 351 resulted in death. Nearly one-third of those cases were children under the age of five.
Cholera is a severe gastrointestinal disease, transmitted by a bacterium called Vibrio cholerae. It can trigger so much diarrhea and vomiting that patients rapidly become dehydrated. They can lose so much fluid that their internal organs shut down, and in Yemen it is especially deadly owing to the starvation and lack of medical care that has plagued the country since the Saudi-led war began in 2015.
The increase is particularly concerning as aid organizations have warned that Yemen’s coming rainy season will likely accelerate the spread of the disease, further exacerbated by the collapse of healthcare in the country as well as the Saudi-led coalition blockade and ongoing airstrikes.
Meanwhile, Ansarallah Defence Minister, General Mohammed al-Atifi, has that the fifth year of war will be different. He warned: "The aggressors will pay the price of their intransigence, and the fifth year of resistance will be the year of surprises, a year of great and decisive victory. Our armed forces today have cadres, expertise, competencies and strategic deterrent weapons that can defeat the coalition.”
Hopefully, the tables will soon be turned upon the aggressors and their backers in the West, with victory belonging to the people of Yemen – Insha Allah.
