Yemeni armed forces make 'significant advances' south of Marib city

The ongoing push to liberate oil-rich Marib comes amid increased aggressions by the Saudi-led coalition on the Yemeni capital

Arabic media reported on 26 November that the Yemeni army has made significant advances on the southern gates of the city of Marib, pushing back against Saudi-backed militias faithful to ousted President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

The reports indicate that the Saudid-led coalition were unable to halt the Yemeni armed forces and allied Popular Committees from making quick advances on the provincial capital’s southern flank.

Despite heavy airstrikes carried out by Saudi jets in their support, Hadi loyalists have already withdrew from the majority of their positions in the eastern and central areas of the Balaqin subdistrict over the past two days.

According to local military sources, the Yemeni army has made great progress on the western suburbs of Falaj after gaining control of all heights surrounding the region.

However, sources close to the pro-Hadi forces allege that their defeat “appears to have been staged from within.”

This latest push to liberate Marib city came just hours after the Saudi-led coalition carried out two airstrikes on Yemen’s capital Sanaa. According to local media reports, coalition fighter jets bombed Al-Nahdain area in Al-Sabeen district.

The Saudi-led coalition has escalated its aggression against Yemen in recent weeks, with Thursday’s attack being the fourth reported over the past week. Meanwhile, two civilians were killed while two were injured when coalition warplanes targeted a building under construction on 23 November.
