Any statement by Trump on Oman talks likely to contradict US delegation’s views: Source

US President Donald Trump is likely to make a statement regarding the content of the indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States in Oman, a source has revealed.

The remarks will be aimed at shaping public opinion and influencing the course of the talks, said the source, adding that any such statements are unlikely to hold substance and may not even align with the views of the American delegation in Muscat.

The first round of indirect talks, mediated by Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, concluded on Saturday with both sides agreeing to resume discussions next week.

According to a European source, the next round of negotiations is expected to take place in a European capital.

The Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, engaged in the talks with the US team headed by Steve Witkoff, the US president’s special envoy.

Tehran has described the discussions in Oman as a preliminary step to assess Washington’s commitment to diplomacy.

Iranian officials have insisted that the negotiations remain indirect due to Trump’s “maximum pressure” policy against the Islamic Republic.

The Muscat talks focused exclusively on the nuclear issue, reports said.

Sources familiar with the discussions reported a noticeable gap between the positions expressed by the US delegation behind closed doors and the narratives presented by US officials in the media.
