Gholamreza Zarifian, Political activist and historian

Martyr Qassem Soleimani was a person who had a correct understanding of the developments of his time, and this correct understanding made him adapt his duties to these developments. It is vital that a person has a proper understanding of the situation surrounding his time. When this understanding is established, then a person can plan better to achieve his or her goals.
Additionally, in terms of personal characteristics, Martyr Soleimani had a combination of seemingly contradictory traits. He was a brave person, but at the same time, he was also a humble person. At the same time that he was rational in dealing with the issues surrounding him, he was also full of emotions in religious and social matters. Simultaneously, he had learned the military hierarchy along with obedience, yet, he was innovative, active and sometimes critical in planning and making decisions.
He had gone through different stages of life. Among these, two parts of his life are more prominent, one part is focused on domestic issues and the other part is focused on global issues.
The domestic aspect of his life goes back to the war imposed by the Iraqi Ba'athist regime on Iran, when Martyr Soleimani, based on the correct understanding of his time, recognized that he must use all his strength to defend the motherland, and he gained many experiences in this way.
After the end of the war, developments and global conditions brought him into another stage of his life, which made his name and reputation worldwide. This was the time when a violent movement bearing the flag of religion had painted a harsh face of Islam for the world – a movement which, of course, is known for how it finds and grows its supporters.
The evolved example of this movement also showed itself in the form of Daesh. Martyr Soleimani's diagnosis at this point was that the Takfiri movement is dangerous not only for Iran, but for all Muslims and the Islamic world. Therefore, with a correct understanding of the conditions of the time, he focused on fighting this so-called sacred ignorance.
He used all his valuable experiences during the imposed war and with the connections he established with some governments in the region, he created a public mobilization against Daesh and succeeded.
Therefore, Martyr Soleimani is not only a national hero, but also a hero for the Islamic world, whose enemies also acknowledged his rationality, creativity and courage. He became a symbol of the fight against so-called sacred ignorance and thus he will be remembered respectfully throughout history.
