Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammadreza Ashtiani (2nd R) meets Chief of the Air Staff of ‎‎Pakistan Air Force Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidu (2nd L) in Tehran on September 1, 2022.

The Iranian defense minister blamed the United States and the ‎West for the present ‎complicated global circumstances, saying they seek to implement their unilateral and ‎totalitarian ‎approaches in all strategic regions of the world.

Brigadier General Mohammadreza Ashtiani made the remark in a Thursday meeting with Chief of the Air Staff of ‎‎Pakistan Air Force Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidu in Tehran‎, Mehr News Agency wrote.

Ashtiani noted that the recent developments in Ukraine are also a consequence of such unilateral and ‎‎interventionist approaches, adding after 20 years of occupation, the U.S. troops pulled out of ‎Afghanistan ‎hurriedly and chaotically. ‎

The Iranian minister said under the present complicated and tumultuous regional circumstances, ‎‎cooperation between Iran and Pakistan can help improve security in West Asia, emphasizing that the two ‎‎neighbors should not allow any third country to impact their efforts to develop bilateral ‎relations ‎and cooperation. ‎

He added Iran and Pakistan have important and influential positions in the developments of the region and Muslim world, stressing that Pakistan has always had a special place in Iran’s foreign policy.

Ashtiani said the Iranian government stresses the importance of boosting ties with Pakistan at bilateral, ‎regional and international levels. ‎

Babar also described regional status quo as complicated, admiring Iran for its resistance against the U.S. ‎sanctions. ‎

He called for enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and Iran in ensuring security along common border.
