The Iranian defense minister blamed the United States and the West for the present complicated global circumstances, saying they seek to implement their unilateral and totalitarian approaches in all strategic regions of the world.
Brigadier General Mohammadreza Ashtiani made the remark in a Thursday meeting with Chief of the Air Staff of Pakistan Air Force Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidu in Tehran, Mehr News Agency wrote.
Ashtiani noted that the recent developments in Ukraine are also a consequence of such unilateral and interventionist approaches, adding after 20 years of occupation, the U.S. troops pulled out of Afghanistan hurriedly and chaotically.
The Iranian minister said under the present complicated and tumultuous regional circumstances, cooperation between Iran and Pakistan can help improve security in West Asia, emphasizing that the two neighbors should not allow any third country to impact their efforts to develop bilateral relations and cooperation.
He added Iran and Pakistan have important and influential positions in the developments of the region and Muslim world, stressing that Pakistan has always had a special place in Iran’s foreign policy.
Ashtiani said the Iranian government stresses the importance of boosting ties with Pakistan at bilateral, regional and international levels.
Babar also described regional status quo as complicated, admiring Iran for its resistance against the U.S. sanctions.
He called for enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and Iran in ensuring security along common border.
