Hezbollah pounds Israeli border sites in solidarity with Gaza

News Desk - The Cradle

The Lebanese resistance has resumed daily operations against Israeli border sites since the truce in Gaza collapsed

Lebanon’s Hezbollah targeted several Israeli sites near the border on the afternoon of 3 December, the group announced via its media channel

“In support of our steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their brave and honorable resistance, the Mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance, at 1:10 pm on Sunday 12/3/2023, targeted a military vehicle at the Beit Hilal base with guided missiles, killing and wounding its crew,” the Hezbollah statement read.

An Israeli army spokesman confirmed the injury of a number of soldiers following the attack, adding that a number of shells were also fired at Israeli positions in the Har Dov area.

Hezbollah announced shortly after its targeting of “the sites of Zabdin, the radar site, and Ruwaisat al-Alam in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms with appropriate weapons, and casualties were achieved.”

The Israeli army announced it was responding with artillery fire on southern Lebanon. Hezbollah launched several other attacks that day.

The last two days have witnessed a significant reescalation of crossfire on the Lebanese border, which had come to a stop during the seven-day truce in Gaza.

Hezbollah carried out several operations against Israeli sites on 2 December.

The day before, Friday 1 December, saw Hezbollah launch its first attacks on Israel since the start of the seven-day ceasefire in Gaza. The attacks came in response to the resumption of Israel’s brutal bombardment of the Gaza Strip, which has killed hundreds in a matter of two days.

Israel responded with indiscriminate strikes on homes and civilian areas in south Lebanon, killing two civilians, a man and his mother, in the town of Hula.

Hezbollah said on the evening of 1 December that it “targeted with Katyusha (Grad) missiles the Dishon artillery positions that bombed the town of Hula.”

The Lebanese resistance did not officially announce its participation in the Gaza truce, but vowed that any attack on Lebanon during the ceasefire period would result in a response.

Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah has clarified in his recent speeches that the intensity of the fighting in south Lebanon will depend on the situation in Gaza, and that the group’s operations aim to alleviate pressure on the Palestinian resistance.
