Erdogan also revealed that Iraqi Kurdistan Region might export gas to Turkey

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on 4 February that Turkey might accept the use of Israeli gas and take further steps to transfer Israeli gas to Europe through joint bilateral cooperation.

Speaking to reporters on his return to Turkey from Ukraine, Erdogan explained that he would consult with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on the issue of supplying gas to Turkey.

According to Erdogan, the gas issue would be part of consultations with the Israeli president during his visit to Turkey in mid-March.

Erdogan also said that the president of the Kurdistan Regional Government Nechirvan Barzani would consult with the federal government on the possibility of supplying gas to Turkey, and denied that his country was facing a shortage of gas reserves.

In answer to a question about whether gas would be exported to Turkey from the Iraqi central government or from the Kurdistan Region, Erdogan said that Kurdistan President Nechirvan Barzani is considering the possibility of supplying Iraqi gas to Turkey, and that Barzani would raise the issue with the Iraqi central government.

The Turkish president also spoke of claims related to the shortage of natural gas reserves in Turkey, saying this was a matter related to Iran and had nothing to do with the end of gas reserves in Turkey. Erdogan said he had consulted with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi on the matter, and that the provision of gas from Iran to Turkey had now returned to normal.
